Freedom Ain't Free

I don't know if you guys are at all familiar with Brother Ali. He's a lyricist, and is quite fantastic in my opinion. Here's some stuff from a song, "Freedom Ain't Free."

One half of all the two on the scene are too timid to dream
Cos failure is far too depressing it would seem
So they take whats given
Thats your decison, I just don't consider that living
If I'm to die whether or not I try
I might as well let the dice fly
See what I see and know that freedom ain't free

Hmmmm.

This poses some interesting ideas. I think that we are all going to die, so in that sense, no, we are not completely free. But, he says people just take what's handed to them, and I think that everyday we have to make some decisions, we couldn't go a day without deciding simple things like what to wear, etc.

This song gives alot to reflect on. I agree that sometimes we do settle for what's given to us when there is so much more in the world. Now i don't agree with how people believe you have the knock a person down in order to get ahead in life. However, i do believe we don't receive our blessings or run after our goals because we don't want to make another person feel uncomfortable because we are prospering. We are suppose to have life and have it more abundantly.

Freedom isn't free. Our forefathers fought for our freedom. You can see in other countries like in the middle east that not all people are free. Women are brutally persecuted, some aren't given the freedom and liberties that we as Americans take for granted. I feel that we don't know how much our freedoms cost. We have marines in Iraq dying so that we can have low cost for oil. I dont get it. I think a lot of people are too ignorant nowadays.
